Swindon & Wiltshire LEP's First Round of Growing Places Infrastructure Fund over-subscribed

The first call for the Swindon & Wiltshire LEP Growing Places Infrastructure Fund (GPIF) closed at 5.00pm on the 31 May 2012 and eight Expressions of Interest were received totalling £19.78 million – over double the Partnerships allocation of £9.346 million

The GPIF has been allocated to the LEP to kick-start capital projects that have stalled – and that will quickly create jobs and grow the local economy. This repayable grant scheme will be invested across a portfolio of projects with the intention of investments returning capital over the short/medium term so that it can be re-cycled into new projects to further stimulate our economy. The Board sub-group responsible for assessing the proposals will now look at the schemes and make recommendations to the Board on which ones should proceed to full application.

Paul Johnson, Chair of the LEP Board commented:

“I’m delighted with the initial response to this opportunity – it shows that there is an appetite in Swindon & Wiltshire to invest for the future. Should the bids from the area to the Regional Growth Fund also prove successful, then you will see a significant level of investment into Swindon & Wiltshire that will have a really positive impact on our economy.”
