Support for using the Local Environment and Economic Development (LEED) toolkit available

Gaining growth benefits from the natural environment - Support for those wanting to use the Local Environment and Economic Development (LEED) toolkit

Natural England can offer further support for LEPs looking to use the Local Environment and Economic Development (LEED) toolkit. We are working with Cumulus Consultants Ltd to provide expert support for LEPs using the toolkit.

Aimed at LEPs  the Local Environment and Economic Development (LEED) toolkit offers an easy to use, technically robust way of systematically considering the evidence relating to the relationship between the economy and the environment to reveal both opportunities and threats  to economic growth , and to consider appropriate responses when developing strategic economic plans.  The toolkit has been produced by the Defra network (the Environment Agency, Natural England and the Forestry Commission) working in partnership with several Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs), Local Authorities and Local Nature Partnerships (LNPs).

The first stage   of the LEED toolkit, Level 1, has now been used with 6 LEPs with a further 5 in the process of setting up workshops.

Iain Dunnett, Operations Manager at New Anglia LEP said that the LEED toolkit:

"will provide an essential tool in achieving sustainable growth across Norfolk and Suffolk".

If you would like to receive support in setting up and running the Level 1 workshop or working through Level 2  if you will have completed Level 1, please see the Natural England website and contact Tom Butterworth, Natural England’s Senior Advisor for Local Government on 07500 608 458 or e-mail on [email protected] .

Please note that this support is limited and will be provided on a first come first served basis.
