South East welcomes move to loosen planning constraints
The Prime Minister’s announcement that unreasonable challenges to major planning applications will be curtailed has been welcomed by the South East Local Enterprise Partnership.
Last week the SELEP’s Executive Group resolved to fight current rules which allow repetitive appeals from groups that don’t want development to happen after noting major infrastructure developments had been seriously delayed.
SELEP Chairman, John Spence, said: “We have a government which aspires to major overhaul of transport infrastructure and which says it is committed to growth. There is a great opportunity for bold thinking on issues such as the Thames Crossing and longer-term aviation capacity.
“Aspirations will only become reality if the legitimate process of appeal and resistance is controlled.”
