GBSLEP is a partnership of businesses, local authorities and universities which supports private-sector growth and job creation. Its role is to create a globally-competitive knowledge economy, ensuring the area is recognised as Europe's natural home for entrepreneurs and wealth creators.
The LEP’s formal objectives are to promote:

And has specific goals to:
- Increase Gross Value Added (GVA, a measure of economic output) by 30% (£8.25bn) by 2020
