Final Local Development Order in support of New Anglia Enterprise Zone is approved

New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership has announced that all 7 Local Development Orders (LDOs) in the Enterprise Zone in Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth have been approved by the Secretary of State

This gives the green light to developers and businesses to build on Enterprise Zone land, without the need for planning approval, if criteria are met. This has been achieved in the first wave of LDOs approved by Government.

As of April 1st six of the seven LDOs, which cover the six Enterprise Zone sites as well as the Power Park site in Lowestoft have been in effect. Norfolk Capacitors are already looking to take advantage of the LDO in place for Beacon Park, planning further development for their recently constructed factory.

Also, at Beacon Park, work has begun on building office units on Wellington Park and industrial units, and the NEXUS Engineering Training Centre on Blackfriars Court.

In the South Denes, construction is well underway for the new Seajacks headquarters building, which will comprise of a mixture of office accommodation and warehouse space.

In Lowestoft at Mobbs Way Enterprise Zone site industrial and office units are in the pipeline for development.

Chairman of New Anglia, Andy Wood said:

“This is a great achievement.  It shows that by working effectively with local authority planners, we can cut red tape and fast-track the development process.  This is good for business and a significant milestone in creating an Enterprise Zone, which will help grow jobs in the two counties.”

New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership has recently been praised by Communities Secretary Eric Pickles for putting the Enterprise Zone LDOs to good use, holding up the Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth Enterprise Zone as an example for others to follow.

The benefits to businesses in the Enterprise Zone include:

  • simplified planning controls to encourage development
  • exemption from business rates for 5 years
  • the roll-out of superfast broadband into the Enterprise Zone
  • access to major business opportunities from our thriving energy sector
