Dorset LEP Skills Plan reaches completion

The Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership’s Skills Plan, developed to raise the aspirations, employability and entrepreneurial opportunities of the county’s population, is now complete.

This ground breaking Plan, which will cover 2014 to 2016, was developed in collaboration with all of Dorset’s post 16 education organisations.

It recommends a number of actions and activities to be taken forward across the LEP area aiming to deliver clear objectives that meet the needs and priorities of Dorset’s local economies, including:

• Ensuring employers can recruit people with the skills and attitudes they need

• Enterprise and innovation is supported and encouraged

• Young people and adults have access to an Apprenticeship where it is right for them

• Everyone has access to high quality and impartial careers advice and guidance

Geoffrey Smith, Dorset LEP Board member and Chairman of the Employment Skills Board, said:

"The Dorset Skills plan is a platform upon which future skill requirements are clearly understood and invested in for the benefit of economic prosperity for Dorset. It should be a working document that will achieve its aim through continued engagement between business and skills and education providers to ensure the current and future workforce have the best opportunity to develop the necessary skills to thrive.”

The Plan drives the Dorset LEP Education and Skills strategy, with a budget running to £10m each year from the European Union Structural & Investment Fund and the LEP Single Local Growth Fund.
