David Frost comments on the life of the LEP Network

"The Annual Summit held on 18th April highlighted the growing influence of LEPs. Not only did we have over 200 present, having had to close the doors some days beforehand, but we had a list of speakers that showed the Government commitment to LEPs - Secretaries of State, a minister and senior civil servants from across government. We also had a senior banker from Barclays who was willing to put his head above the parapet.

It was, however, Lord Heseltine that I belive made the biggest impact. Not for the first time he posed some uncomfortable questions and issued some clear challenges – asking LEP Chairmen if the role you are now being asked to do is the role you want to do? Questioning if if the Individual LEPs are capable of taking on new responsibilities and whether you have the right team in place. Uncomfortable perhaps, but not surprising. LEPs have been in existence for less than 3 years but what is being asked of you is very different now from when LEPs were established. So I sense an interesting few months ahead and I sense change."
