Coventry and Warwickshire LEP appoints its first managing director
Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership has announced the appointment of its first managing director
Martin Yardley, who is Director of City Services and Development at Coventry City Council, will be head of the executive team which runs the LEP, the partnership of private and public sector designed to drive forward to economy.
Yardley will be working closely with LEP chair Denys Shortt CEO Stratford-based DCS Europe and manufacturer and distributer of health and beauty products. Yardley said:
"The Coventry and Warwickshire LEP is one of the most progressive LEPs in the country and as managing director, my aim is to build on the momentum which has been achieved so far. In these tough economic times, it is more important than ever that public and private sector organisations work together to provide more opportunities for employment, economic growth and to remove any barriers which are preventing organisations and businesses from growing, as well as give our opinion on forming Government policy.
I will also be overseeing our different focus groups which range from tourism to planning to bring all the different business strands together as everyone connected with the LEP maintain our mission of making things happen.
We have a five-year strategy we are working to and I am part of a dedicated and forward-thinking team who are determined to make a difference."
The 48-year-old has been involved with the LEP since its inception. His council role includes areas as diverse as street cleansing and highway maintenance to implementing a major regeneration programme in Coventry city centre.
Martin previously worked at Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council as assistant director regeneration for three years where he was part of the management team which saw the authority move from a zero star to a three star rating.
He is also a chartered town planner with a specialist interest in planning enforcement and he has worked for the public and private sectors including being head of planning and sustainability in Leicestershire to advising a house builder within the East Midlands.
