Association of Colleges Survey on LEPs and College Engagement 2012

The Association of Colleges (AoC) is carrying out a survey on LEPs and College Engagement, following their report ‘The Involvement of Colleges in Local Enterprise Partnerships’ published in March 2011.

AoC are calling on LEPs to complete the survey to inform policy development around making the skills system deliver for local economies. The survey form can be found by following this link and should be completed by Monday 6th of February 2012.

Last year's report sought to gain a better understanding of how colleges were engaging with the new LEPs. It identified ‘Opportunities for Collaborative Working’ as well as a number of ‘Barriers to Effective Engagement’. AoC is revisiting this policy area to assess how these relationships have developed and matured over the intervening year given the significant developments that have taken place, including:

  • the approval of more LEP proposals
  • two rounds of Regional Growth Funding
  • designation of 22 Enterprise Zones
  • release of LEP Capacity Funding (First Round) and LEP Start Up Funding
  • the first round of the Growth and Innovation Fund and commencement of round two
  • Growing Places Funding being released via LEPs.

The original report included analysis of the 24 first wave LEP proposals, but now that there is almost full UK LEP coverage and there has been time for LEPs to mature it was felt that a direct LEP survey would be more appropriate.

The relationship between LEPs and Colleges is a significant component in the local offer driving both growth and investment in skills training. The results of this survey will inform an updated AoC report of College engagement in the formulation and ongoing development of LEPs that will inform policy development and discussions with Government Departments and Ministers.
